Belinda O'Hooley is a gifted pianist, singer and songwriter. A cornerstone of many exceptional collaborations including O'Hooley and Tidow and Coven, Belinda is also known for her inventive, minimalist, sometimes flamboyant musical accompaniment of folk luminaries including Rufus Wainwright, Nic Jones, Jackie Oates and the Mercury-nominated Rachel Unthank. Whether accompanying herself on the accordeon or the Institute's Bechstein grand piano Belinda's visits to the club are always keenly anticipated.

In her new solo project, Inversions, Belinda's abilities as a sensitive composer and pianist are showcased. Many of the piano pieces are inspired by the songs and tunes her father inherited from a long line of male musicians in the hills of the west coast of rural Ireland.

  • Our next Come All Ye:
    Come All Ye
    Friday 11th February 2022 - 8.00pm
    Doors open at 7.15pm - music 7:30pm - evening finishes at 10.30pm

Although a number of our "regulars" are beginning to attend other events in the "real world" on Friday nights, including folk clubs, our monthly online sessions are still going strong and attracting great singers and good audiences. Our singers, musicians and wordsmiths continue to entertain us with an eclectic mix of songs, tunes and tales, their repertoires often influenced by the customs, occasions and events associated with the month. Thus in January we had a fine selection of midwinter compositions and ballads and in February we anticipate plenty of songs of love and couertship, as well as seasonal tales and poetry. Come along to hear their selection, you won’t be disappointed and you’ll definitely be entertained.

Tim and Lawrence will be hosting the evening and welcoming everyone, performers and audience members alike. It's almost as good as the real thing and it's a delight to see a screen full of familiar and new faces and hear some very enjoyable music and tales. Bring your own drink!

If you're interested in attending please click here to send an e-mail.

    Admission free (obvs)

  • Our previous presentation

    Come All Ye
    Recorded "live" December 2021
    Still available online

In 2019, after 20 years of promoting Maypoles To Mistletoe at the Electric Theatre, the folk club adapted the perennially popular show to fit into the Assembly Room at the Guildford Institute. The show was called Mistletoe Garland and in 2020 we adapted our adaptation to fit into Zoom. The show was streamed "live" a week before Christmas and a recording is still available here.

On Friday 10th December 2021 the cast of Mistletoe Garland were each invited to choose their two favourite songs from the show and were joined by most of our regular Come All Ye Open Zoom (CAYOZ) singers, performing seasonal songs of their choosing, to present Mistletoe CAYOZ. As in previous years we were delighted to be joined by the wonderful Martyn Wyndham-Read to bring you some Christmas cheer and perform some of the finest seasonal songs and tunes around interspersed with anecdotes and poems about traditional customs and folklore. All that plus a Mummers Play! A splendid time was had by all and you can enjoy it here.

Every year show is performed in aid of the charity Maypoles To Mistletoe has supported for decades, St Catherine's Hospice in Crawley. Mistletoe CAYOZ is free to view, but should you wish to make a donation to St Catherine's please visit our 2021 website.

The show is available on YouTube (click here for link).
