Music for today ....
.... because of yesterday
A selection of the very best of music and
dance with its roots in the tradition
Morrigan impressed many of us with their a capella harmonies when they performed as part of our online Mistletoe Cayoz (Christmas 2021), so much so that we booked them at the club for May 2022. Unfortunately the gig had to be postponed due to ill health so, after a long wait, we are delighted to finally welcome the quartet to the Assembly Room. Their music is a blend of traditional and contemporary song, some self penned, delivered in four-part harmony. The name Morrigan (a figure from Irish mythology and translated as "great queen”) originates in the band's initial all female line up. The current four piece, which adds male voices to the mix, was formed in 2010 - however they have all known each other and played together for over 20 years through their mutual involvement in ceilidh bands, folk singing, morris dancing, theatre and music education. |
